Davis Monthan is home for the 355th Wing, one of the largest wings in the Air Force with more than 6,100 personnel, six flying squadrons and one geographically separated unit. The wing provides A-10 close air support; OA-10 forward air controllers; air liaison officers; EC-130 command, control and communications warfare; air control radar; and combat support forces to unified commanders. The 355th Wing also provides initial and recurrent flying training to all U.S. Air Force A/OA-10 and EC-130 pilots and crews; and is the Air Combat Command executive agent for INF and START treaty compliance. Davis Monthan is also home for the Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Center (AMARC). Immediately after World War II, the Army’s San Antonio Air Technical Service Command established a storage facility for B-29 and C-47 aircraft at Davis-Monthan AFB. Today, this facility is the Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Center (AMARC), which has grown to include approximately 4,500 aircraft from the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy. This fleet provides a unique savings account from which military units throughout the world may withdraw parts and aircraft. Bickerstaff, For Your Information: You may use the AAFES Military Star card or other major credit cards, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express at all our retail stores and most of our concession operations. You may apply for an AAFES Military Star card, a good way to enjoy your purchase while paying over time at a low competitive interest rate, at the Davis-Monthan BX. Your Exchange operates on funds generated through sales of merchandise and services, not on tax dollars. Profits and earnings go directly back to our customers through contributions to the Davis-Monthan Morale, Welfare and Recreation fund. AAFES contributed $531,231 in dividends to MWR in 2005. These dividends fund facilities such as ball fields, gyms, swimming pools, clubs, child care and other recreational areas. Civilians are welcome at all Davis-Monthan Exchange Food facilities when visiting the base. All Guardsmen, Reservists and their families are authorized full, unlimited privileges in all AAFES (PX) facilities on Davis-Monthan and the rest of the United States, by simply showing their proper identification.
