Welcome to Colorado Springs, Colorado. It is located within the Rocky Mountains, and is a favorite destination for many travelers.

Colorado Springs   Located at the base of Pike's Peak, Colorado Springs offers various attractions in or near the city. A favorite stop is the Garden of the Gods, a 1,364-acre national landmark visible from many location within the city. It's rock formations are popular with the area's rock climbers. The Garden of the Gods is maintained by Colorado Springs and has walking paths and picnic areas in and around the formations for visitors.

Your tour of duty or visit to the Colorado Springs area would not be complete without a trip to the summit of Pikes Peak. Though considered unclimbable in 1806, visitors now have their choice of paths to the top of the 14,110 foot mountain. You can hike up the mountain or simply sit back, relax, and let the Manitou and Pikes Peak Railway take you to the summit, or you can drive to the top on the Pikes Peak Highway, a 19-mile-toll road. The Crystal Creek Reservoir Visitors Center, has lots of  information about the area's history, its' geology, its' weather patterns and wildlife.

North of Colorado Springs is the U.S. Air Force Academy. Many area visitors are drawn to the military school's nature trail, Falcon Stadium and B-52 Display. Probably the most recognizable symbol of the academy is the spire, 150-foot-tall Academy Chapel. The aluminum, glass and steel structure houses separate worship areas for Protestant, Catholic and Jewish faiths, as well as an all-faiths room for members of other faiths.

About one mile northeast of downtown Colorado Springs is the U.S. Olympic Training Center. It is the headquarters for the U.S. Olympic Committee and used to be an old Air Force base. Some of the older buildings served as military housing facilities. Visitors are welcome to tour the Training Center complex, and may catch a glimpse of one of America's athletes training for future competition.

Southwest of Colorado Springs is Fort Carson, home to the Third Brigade, Fourth Infantry Division, Third Armored Calvary Regiment, Forty-third Area Support Group and various other units. It has a newly renovated Post Exchange Mall that is the largest military mall in the Colorado Springs area.

Just east of Colorado Springs is Peterson A.F.B., home to the U.S. Air Force's Space Command, and the Twenty-first Space Wing. The base is built on the site of Colorado Springs' original Municipal Airport, which was built in 1926.
