| Redstone Arsenal is located in north central Alabama, 16 miles
south of the Tennessee State border and adjacent to the city of Huntsville,
Alabama. The Redstone Arsenal for over forty years, has been the
nerve center for the Army's missile and rocket programs. Shortly after WW
II, Dr. Werner Von Braun and 100 of his colleagues were brought to
Redstone to develop America's missile program. Today, Redstone Arsenal is
home to the U.S. Army Missile Command, the Army Ordnance Missile and
Munitions Center and NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center. Adjacent to
Redstone Arsenal, is Alabama's Space and Rocket Center
(http://www.spacecamp.com/) featuring the earth's largest collection of
missiles, rockets and space vehicles. The museum also encompasses The U.S.
Space Camp Training Center (http://www.spacecamp.com/), Space Dome Theater
and Huntsville Marriott Hotel. Active Duty military personnel receive
special rates to the center.
Redstone Arsenal is easily accessible by U.S. highways 431,231 & 72, also a 21 mile spur, I-565, connects Huntsville to Interstate Highway 65. Redstone Arsenal is within four-hours to such cities as Atlanta, Memphis, Nashville, Birmingham and Chattanooga. Huntsville International Airport has daily direct flights to Atlanta, Dallas-Ft.Worth, Nashville and Charlotte. The Redstone Arsenal Exchange complex is conveniently located off Goss Road, just inside Gate 8. The Main Exchange is a large mall type facility with a Food Court and Concession Mall. The Furniture Store is just across the parking lot from the Main Exchange, as is the Car Car Center and Burger King. The One Stop Shoppette/ Class Six is located nearby at the corner of Gross Road and Vincent Drive. The One Stop Shoppette offers a complete convenience store selection of food and grocery items plus video rental, alcoholic beverages and a ten island gasoline refueling facility.
