The Barksdale AFB Exchange is located at the Barksdale AFB in Bossier Parish in Northwest Louisiana. The Barksdale Exchange serves the men and women of the 2nd Bomb Wing, 8th Air Force and the largest tactical fighter wing in the air Force Reserve – the 917th Wing. The exchange currently employs 220 civilians, military dependents and military members which include veterans, retirees, reservists and active duty members. The employees have always taken pride in providing the best customer service possible. As a result of their efforts Barksdale Exchange Has received the Alamo Exchange Region Best Exchange Award and Central Region’s Extraordinary Customer Service Award.
Barksdale’s Main BX is located at 455 Curtiss Road. This one stop shopping facility is open seven days a week under a central mall theme for shoppers’ convenience. Departments include clothing, shoes, linens, giftware, furniture, large appliances, sporting goods, ammunition and firearms, pet supplies, lawn and garden, stationary, electronics, jewelry, hardware, health and beauty aides, cosmetics and toys. To satisfy the hungriest shopper there is a large food court that offers Anthony’s Pizza, Robin Hood and Charley’s Steakery. A new addition to the Food Court is a Smoothie King which makes custom-blended smoothies with real fruit, pure juices, and nutritional supplements. Included in the mall area is a barber shop, beauty shop, massage therapy, GNC nutritional store, laundry dry cleaner/alterations, flower shop, optical, embroidery, cellular service and a customer favorite Starbucks. The base Refill Pharmacy is also located at the Main BX and offers a drive-thru as well as walk in access. They will also take new prescriptions at this location. Burger King is located at Bldg 4250, behind the base library and next to Chapel #2. Past renovations to this facility included adding an atrium, an improved drive thru and parking lot.
The MCSS is located at 200 Wilbur Wright Drive and is adjacent to the Shoppette/Car Care Center. Service members have no problem replacing a uniform item, as the MCSS is located near the dorm area. The clothing sales expands its customer base by providing uniforms to JROTC in the ARKLATEX area to include Grambling University and LSUS Senior ROTC units. The MCSS is moving to the BX Mall later in 2010.
The Shoppette/Car Care Center is a combination Shoppette, Class VI and Car Care Center under one roof and is open seven days a week. The facility has 16 pumps equipped with island credit card readers for customer convenience. Twenty four Hour Service is available at pumps 7 through 11 with a debit/credit card. Firestone Complete Care Service is available at this Location. They are open Mon-Fri 0700-1900, Sat 0800-1700 and Sun 0900-1700.
Eight miles from the Main Base is the Capehart Store on the East Reservation. The facility is a mini extension of the BX and Shoppette, which includes gasoline and live bait for the avid fisherman.
The Barksdale AFB Exchange Revenue for 2009 was $44,278,707 of which $736,468 were from catalog sales. The profit from these sales is returned to the base which uses the money to improve the quality of life services. The exchange contribution to MWR in 2009 was $517,293.70.
